Concert Series "New Music in Ukraine"

The concert series "New Music in Ukraine" is a form of representation for music lovers of contemporary music by Ukrainian and world symphonic, chamber and instrumental music with the Chamber Ensemble
"New Music in Ukraine" and leading domestic and foreign orchestras, ensembles, soloists and composers.
A series of concerts are held in the best concert halls of Ukraine throughout the concert season.
The artistic director is Ukrainian composer and conductor Volodymyr Runchak.
Co-organizers are the National Ukrainian Music Union, along with diplomatic and cultural representatives
of various countries of the world.

“The New Music in Ukraine” project emerged entirely thanks to the initiative of one person - the Kyiv composer Volodymyr Runchak.  Having tried out the capital halls he has begun appearing periodically in other cities of Ukraine.  The concerts in Lviv may be characterized as 'the festival of one conductor.' Demonstrating admirable enthusiasm, over the years this composer has been successful in presenting a relatively unpopular subject – contemporary music by assembling the audiences and securing the support of numerous Ukrainian and foreign institutions.”

Chamber Ensemble "New Music in Ukraine"

Previously named Chamber Orchestra of the Kyiv Composers’ Union of Ukraine, this ensemble was founded in Kyiv in 1988 by the Ukrainian composer and conductor Volodymyr Runchak. The ensemble was created to perform new as well as classical music works by Ukrainian and foreign composers of 20th century. The ensemble has participated in many Ukrainian and international festivals and realized its own concert series "New Music in Ukraine." Over 600 works by Ukrainian and foreign composers have been performed; most of them world- and Ukrainian-wide premieres (including concert-portraits of K.Stockhausen, M.Kagel, W.Rihm, N.A.Huber, G.Ligeti, H.M.Gorecki, and W.Lutoslawski). The performances of I.Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Story took place together with a Vienna puppet show.

"A bold initiator - ‘motor’ - of the concert series “New Music In Ukraine,” and an irreplaceable director of the chamber ensemble,

Volodymyr Runchak evokes nothing but astonishment and respect.  Astonishment – at the consistency and zeal with which this

musician (composer, conductor, organizer and more) has been blasting away for two decades at the wall of public indifference

to serious contemporary music of an experimental, avant-garde nature. Respect – for his conviction of the importance of this

work and energy, and enthusiasm which are embodied in his every endeavor.”                                       -- Politics and Culture
